Description

A Māori waka paddling past the Calliope Dock wharf, Devonport, with spectators in dinghies and large crowds on the wharf, along the waterfront and on the hillside by houses on Alexander Road, possibly for the North Shore Native Regatta and Aquatic Carnival, which ran from 27 December 1898 through 5 January 1899. The waka taua races were held on 28 and 31 December, 1898.
