The city is picturesquely situated on Vancover Island, and faces the Pacific Ocean. It is a bit of an old England in new Canada. Its fine Harbour holds not only the sealing fleet of the North Pacific waters but the vessels of many nations. Four miles distant is the fortified harbour of Esquimalt, Britian's naval stronghold in the Pacific.
