Description

Looking south west from St Matthews Church towards Ponsonby and Western Park, showing Hobson Street (diagonal left), intersection of Hobson and Cook Streets (lower left), Wellington Street (left to right), St James Church (background left), the gasometer on Beresford Street (centre), premises of W Woodham, draper (left of centre), and Trades Hall (right of centre). The spire was removed from St James Presbyterian Church in early 1912, having been deemed unsafe.
