Disqualification of the leader, A. Murray, robs him of victory and gives the title after a playoff to J.P. Hornabrook, the Masterton amateur. The gallery watching Hornabrook and Murray at the 13th green during the final round of the open championship. These players were watched with great interest as their scores for this round decided their positions at the top of the list.
