Description

Hitherto little more than a beautiful bush track, the seven- mile route from Weheka to Gillespie's Beach is now being converted into an all-traffic road. Upper: One of the construction camps. Upper: A stretch of coastline at Gillespie's Beach. Middle lower: The large electric gold dredge operating at Gillespie's. Middle right: Another road-worker's camp on the route. Lower: Southern Alps viewed from the new road, which will make a fine scenic highway.
