Description

Search for gold: large new dredges being assembled for operations on the South Island West Coast near Hokitika. Two large dredges are now being assembled at Kanieri and Arahua and should be ready for operations later in the year. An interesting point is that both were constructed in the Addington railway workshops, Christchurch. UPPER LEFT: The Kanieri dredge. UPPER RIGHT: Catching red-hot rivets. LOWER LEFT: Riveters at work on steel frames at Arahura
