A large group of children, men and women in various costumes surround the winner of the Picton Queen Carnival, Miss May Tonga, who sits on her throne with attendants surrounding her at the coronation ceremony at Picton. Many of the children wear Māori costume, with piupiu, as well as the attendants and the Carnival Queen herself.
