These pictures show how the British destroyer Ithuriel rammed and sank within a few minutes the Italian submarine Cobalto. UPPER LEFT: Forcing the submarine to the surface by depth charges, the destroyer opened fire, scoring a direct hit on the conning tower. UPPER RIGHT: The Ithuriel approaching the Cobalto. Note members of the submarine’s crew in the water. LOWER LEFT: The Cobalto being rammed. This picture was taken at the moment of impact
