One of the greatest disasters in British military history was the fall of Singapore on February 16 1942, when 60,000 British, Indian and Australian troops surrendered. Upper left: British officers at Singapore on their way to meet the Japanese to discuss surrender terms. On the extreme right is Lieutenant-General A. E.
