Postcard folded in three shows a photograph of a carved Maori canoe seating 100 warriors. The postmark is for August 1909, but the imprint suggests a 1903 date. One panel of the card shows a handwritten letter from "Charles" on board the SS 'Shirala' in Auckland, to Miss J Penny of Clapton, London. The letter reads: "Dear June, Many thanks for your letter of 24th Nov. I'm very sorry to hear that Jess has been on the sick list again. Seasonable colds are not to my liking
