Original caption 'Akatarawa bridge, at confluence of rivers. Bridge leads to Bridge Road' is wrong. These bridges spanned Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River downstream of the junction with the Akatarawa. The single-lane timber-truss bridge (the 'Black Bridge') was one of a pair built in 1880-1881 at either end of Bridge Road, which was part of the route from Upper Hutt to the Akatarawa valley.
