Description

Scene on Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River with three horse teams and carts carrying gravel from the riverbed. Other photos show as many as 18 standardised carts; their box bodies could be lifted and slewed by a steam-powered crane mounted on the front of an Aveling and Porter traction engine, which would also be used to empty them. Most of the pictures come from York Studios; this one may not.
