Caption: The forthcoming 40th reunion of Heretaunga College this Labour Weekend is an appropriate time to reflect on the first year of the college which opened in February 1954 with a staff of eight including Mr J B Thurston as principal. The initial roll comprised 139 pupils (75 boys and 64 girls) drawn from Form 2 contributing schools stretching from Haywards through to Te Marua.
