Description

This car, designed by Reid Railton, broke the record on August 23, 1939, on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, reaching 369.7 miles an hour (595 km/h). It was powered by two Napier Lion aircraft engines, and had Dunlop tyres, and possibly Dunlop wheels. After the war it was rebuilt as the Mobil Railton Special, and reached 394.19 mph (634 km/h) on September 16, 1947. The mark on the nose does not look like the Mobil Pegasus flying horse, so this picture is probably pre-war.
