- Description
This drover is taking a mob of sheep from the southern end of the Waioeka Gorge to Gisborne in 1952. The trip takes several days and the animals are given time to graze as they travel. In front of the mob is a lead dog whose job was to ensure that the first sheep did not get away from the others. On long droves, stock got used to the dog and learned to follow it. Nowadays, lead dogs are not often seen.
