Babies and toddlers show off special car safety seats donated to the Plunket Society in the 1980s. Plunket raises funds by hiring out the seats to parents. Although many people began using the seats from the 1970s, they did not become compulsory for children under five until 1994. They provide small children with greater protection than adult seat belts in an accident.
