Auckland teenagers dressed in the height of 1960s fashion – beehive hairdos, tight jeans and boots – cross a street in central Auckland. Teenagers quickly adopted fashion and hairstyle trends that originated in Britain and the United States. This set them apart as a separate group, distinct from both children and adults. Teenagers' new, highly visible appearance marked them out as adolescent and different.
