The 1905 All Blacks are shown here in a line-out against the Midland Counties during their tour of the British Isles, France and the United States. The All Blacks won the match 21–5, and lost only one of the other games they played. This team, which was also the first to use the 'All Black' name, became legendary. They displayed the physical capacity and competitive success that was seen as essential to colonial manhood.
