Robert Muldoon's attempt to broaden National's appeal is highlighted in this 1975 election poster. The slogan 'New Zealand – the way youwant it' was a populist pitch which voters could interpret to suit themselves. The images were intended to reassure voters that the bedrocks of society – such as traditional-family life and cradle-to-grave welfare – would continue to have National's support.
