Description

Investigates differences in song between urban and rural populations of the Australian magpie, given that some studies have found that birds in urban areas alter singing behaviour possibly to increase transmission and avoid concealing by high levels of anthropogenic background noise. Compares songs to determine if magpies shift the frequency, duration and output of songs in response to urban noise. Monitors territorial responses of both sets of birds to unfamiliar urban and rural songs.
