The New Zealand National Film Unit presents Pictorial Parade No. 81 (1958) Amidst a throng of eager onlookers and mud-soaked photographers, Prime Minister Joseph Ward stood on a newly laid section of rail at Manganuioteao. It was 6 November 1908, and Ward's task was to ceremoniously hammer home the last spike of the North Island main trunk line.
