Description

Describes General Godley's view of the relationship between Lieutenant-Colonel Herbert, commander of the Māori Contingent, and his officers. Details the NZ appointment of the Māori-speaking Tuparoa farmer to assist in the situation, and the subsequent withdrawal of the appointment. Backgrounds the return to NZ of four Māori officers- Pitt, Dansey, Hetet and Hiroti -and the problems this caused in NZ.
