Reports on the development of a rapid field assessment program for the identification of buildings most at seismic risk in unreinforced masonry (URM) in Auckland, which has the most URM buildings constructed in NZ. Describes the application of the quantitative assessment program to a sampling of URM buildings in the Auckland region most likely to be vulnerable to earthquakes. Offers conclusions and recommendations. Identifies future work on URM out-of-plane assessments.
