This watercolour is one of three illustrations by Robert Hawcridge (1866-1920) donated to the Otago Settlers Museum by the Otago Fallen Soldiers Memorial Committee in 1906. Yorkshire-born artist Robert Hawcridge came to Otago in the late 1880s. Before coming to New Zealand he had been principal show card designer for a firm in Leeds.
