- Description
Built 1880-1881, at the north end of Bridge road; a similar three-span bridge crossed the Hutt River at the southern end of Bridge Road. The timber trusses were replaced by pre-stressed concrete beams in 1954, after which the southern bridge was closed; its trusses were demolished in 1956. The central pier subsided by about a metre on October 29, 2015, cutting off 62 homes. A temporary single-lane road to Totara Park had opened by mid-November. The replacement opened on May 3, 2017.
