Māwai Hakona leader 'Aunty Dovey' – Hera Katene-Horvath – is made up with a bloody wound during filming of National Film Unit production Te Rauparaha in March 1971. She played the wife of a fighting chief. Two dozen Māwai Hakona members and 50 young Māori trade trainees from the Trentham hostel appeared in the 1972 film about the 19th-century Ngāti Toa leader, which re-created the Wairau incident and concluded with Te Rauparaha’s death.
