- Description
Locomotive A-601 with a special troop train to Wellington departing Summit on 15 December 1953. Summit was on the old route of the railway to the Wairarapa; the section of line on which it was situated was opened on 16 October 1878 and closed on 29 October 1955. The locomotive was built by A.& G. Price of Thames and entered service on 16 March 1914. It was withdrawn and written off in June 1961. (Information - Brian Pearce).
