Electric multiple-units stabled in the Upper Hutt railway yard; January 1995. The first English Electric multiple-units were introduced in July 1938 on the Johnsonville line; more entered service when the lines to Paekakariki and through the Hutt Valley were electrified. The last run of an English Electric unit in revenue service was from Melling to Wellington on 25 June 2012.
