- Description
Kaitoke railway station, 29 October 1955. Two De-class diesel-electric locomotives - No. 507 leading - with a train to the Carterton Show on the day this original railway route to the Wairarapa was closed to all rail traffic. On its southbound return journey this train was the last to ascend the Rimutaka Incline and traverse the old line down to Upper Hutt. The 660 hp. De-class locomotives were built by English Electric and entered service in 1952
