The locomotive was about to break the ribbon. The 'Upper Hutt Leader' listed Bill Jeffries, M P, Rex Kirton, Mayor of Upper Hutt, and Sir John Kennedy-Good, Mayor of Lower Hutt, as visible; Rex is partly obscured by Bill. Greyscale image in the 'Leader', February 25, 1986. NOTE: The Upper Hutt Leader stated this locomotive was built in 1876. However we have been corrected on this by Brian Pearce. Please see 'Recollections' for this node for more information.
