Description

This greyscale image was first printed in 'Leader' advertisements from April 14, 1987. It had been preceded by a 'Why I'm standing against Labour' article on April 7. The original figure based on the figures printed on August 18 was 38.4%, but the 'Leader' had used a telephoned figure of 1541 votes for Bill Jeffries at Trentham School; the actual figure was 541. The April 26, 1988 'Leader' announced that he was leaving the National Party; he had not given a reason to the electorate committee....
