Description

Hre had been struck down with arthritis in hisknees and ankles months after his 1974 win in the 10 000 metres, but had made a remarkable recovery, and was leading the Arthritis Foundation's annual appeal. A greyscale image was printed in the 'Leader' on September 29, 1987. He had been in Upper Hutt to present athletic awards at Heretaunga College; pictured with Hayden McCawe, Gary Stone and Karen Rudman on October 13.
