Description

The Auckland Niutao Island (Tuvalu) community performs a fatele (dance) at the May 2014 opening of Kolose: The Art of Tuvalu Crochet, an exhibition at Māngere Arts Centre – Ngā Tohu o Uenuku. A distinctive feature of the Niutao Island dance costume is their gatu kolose (crocheted tops). The dancers are, front row, left to right: Moevale Tila, Puapapae Papau, Malama Sione and Melelusi Tepapauoatua; back row: Fulu Fomai, Pitaani Patelika (obscured), Sinoi F. Sione and Lakena Tepapauoatea.
