Description

Fa.242 with trailing bogie wheel added. Built by Robert Stephenson & Co., Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1873; rebuilt at Newmarket into the 0-6-0 Fa class in 1892. The Fa's were converted F types; their boilers' heating area was increased 9%, and pressure was raised from 130 to 160 pounds per square inch. Piston size was increased. Water storage in the side tanks was 800 gallons, compared to the saddle tanks' 350, and tractive effort increased from 5733 pounds to 9090. Weight rose from 19.2 tons to 24
