Description

Shaving mug. Based on information from the donor we believe this shaving mug originally belonged to Alexander George (Alex) Turner 1866-1958. Alex and his wife Margaret Sarah Ann Turner farmed a 60 acre block of former Maori reserve land at Tuturau which his son Alex Turner (Junior) took over. Alex (Senior) first visited Mataura in 1882. He work at various jobs starting as a bushman at 13, a horse trader at 15, he later worked as a seaman, farmer, carter, coal miner and road maker. His father...
