- Description
A black and white photograph depicting the scene as the cylinder for the new No. 5 paper making machine for the Mataura Paper Mill is hauled by two traction engines from Gore to Mataura in 1936. According to the book 'Mataura: City of the Falls' the cylinder weighed 40 tons, and because the suspension bridge across the river at Mataura was likely not strong enough to support the combined weight, the convoy drove down River Road (a back route from Gore to Mataura).
