Compiles historical knowledge on Māori use of fire as a resource, weapon and tool, based on published literature and kōrero with kaumātua. Explores the effects of fire, both Māori and European, on the landscape of Aotearoa New Zealand, and the traditional use of fire by rural Māori communities. Looks at three case studies : Te Urewera, Rūātoki; Tarawera Forest; and Onepū District. Aims to assist in informing rural fire authorities with this knowledge.
