Popeye toy Popeye the Sailor Man was a cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar. Popeye first appeared in a comic strip named Thimble Theatre, 17 January 1929. This toy, made in the early 1940s, was created when Popeye was extremely popular following a series of animated cartoon shorts made for Paramount Pictures and shown in cinemas in the 1930s.
