The Fiordland National Park Board is attempting to control deer to reduce damage to the vegetation. This report examines the diet of deer by way of rumen contents. A list of species found, their volume and importance is included. Within the forest, Griselinia littoralis and Polystichum vestitum form the major portion of the diet. In subalpine forest and grassland the small grasses, tussock species and large herbs were favoured. (auth)
