- Description
The condition of northern rata on Kapiti Island is now declining as a result of opossum browsing. The amount of browse-damage observable on other tree species on the island continues to increase. Control of opossums should be re-introduced to about 1/3 of the island. The main methods that should be considered for Kapiti Island at present are; cage trapping, gin trapping, poison bait stations. Careful monitoring will be needed to assess the danger to birds. (auth)
