Verso: This stone was halfway between Kawakawa and Taumarere and was sacred to Ngapuhi. Hemi Honihana of Karetu is here seen addressing the stone according to old custom. From left to right: Paritautari, Hemi Honihana, Riri Maihi Te Kawiti, Maihi Taku Brown, D. Penny [Penney], Te Kirihoko Pirihito. [Karetu] Tapu (sacred) volcanic rock on the left hand side of the Kawakawa-Opua road between Taumarere and the Tirohanga turnoff. The road deviated to preserve the stone in its resting place
