Description

A St Patrick's 15-year-old had been killed there in April 2003, and a HIBS student had received head injuries later in the year. The new lights were much brighter, and this was the first time they had been used at a pedestrian railway crossing. The time that bells and lights operated for southbound trains had been reduced; people had been impatient, and crossed when there was no obvious sign of a coming train.
