Description

One of six red deer (the others were hinds and calves). The stag, a hind, and two calves had jumped the fence into the lower paddock but, faced with the prospect of jumping uphill over the fence and an outrigger hot wire, only the hind managed to do it. The stag and calves ran back and forth along the fence until, after about half an hour, they finally plucked up the gumption to make the jump and attain the safety of the rough gully leading back into the bush.
