Description

Artist Gottfried Lindauer was born in Pilsen, Bohemia in 1839. He arrived in New Zealand in 1874, and was naturalised on 23 July 1881. Lindauer is best known for his portraits of Māori. Many of his paintings were commissioned by Auckland businessman Henry Partridge, who believed that there was an urgent need for a pictorial record of tradition...
