The tennis club was opened in 1919 and croquet was added for the sporting fraternity, making the school the centre of all district activities. The first Longburn School opened in 1877 in Reserve Road. In 1910 the building was moved to its present site in Carey Street, Longburn. A new school was built and opened in 1922.The name Longburn is thought to have originated from the Scottish word ‘Long-Bourn’ later shortened to Longburn.
