Printed in greyscale in the ‘Leader’ on November 21, 1994, after his death. Born in Petone in 1930; dux of Randwick School, then college in Petone. Third generation of his family to work in Woburn railway workshops; later worked in the Dunlop tyre factory, and as a brake specialist at Contour Brakes in Lower Hutt. New Zealand flugelhorn champion 1952, 1954, 1955 and 1962; that year, he also travelled to Holland with the New Zealand National Brass Band. At some stage, not dated in the band's w...
