- Description
The groynes are old power poles, meant to slow the flow of floodwater to encourage shingle to drop; the debris fences are old railway iron and cable, and are intended to collect debris, forming a water barrier. Willows would be planted between, and were expected to grow three metres a year. Similar barriers had been placed at Totara Park, Trentham Memorial park, and downstream from the Pomare railway bridge. A greyscale image was printed in the September 4, 1984 'Leader'.
