- Description
Survivors from the wreck of the Niagara descend the steps of one of the rescue boats on their arrival safely back in New Zealand. The Niagara was sunk by a German mine off the north Auckland coast while en route to Vancouver. The majority of survivors had no time to dress properly and arrived wearing dressing gowns and overcoats over their night attire.
