Description

A scene showing Turkish soldiers suffering from cholera at San Stefano. This photo shows Turkish soldiers stricken by cholera huddled at a ditch side outside San Stefano, the little town near Constantinople rendered famous by the Russo-Turkish Treaty of 1878. The prostrate man in the foreground was in a dying condition when the photograph was taken. He was dead when the photographer passed a few hours later at dusk. The buildings of San Stefano can be seen in the distance.
