Description

Showing the construction of settling tanks for a new high-pressure water supply in Levin, Manawatu: The tanks shown in the photograph are situated about a mile below the intake tunnel. The water ramains in the tanks long enough for the fine sediment to settle, leaving the water beatifully clear. The tanks are 16ft deep, and are constructed of reinforced concrete. The spiral pipes are manufactured at Wanganui, the largest being 15in in diameter.
